BeforeRestore. Don't replace.
A full new driveway in Ottawa runs about $35 a square foot — roughly $28,000 for a typical Ottawa driveway. Restoring the same driveway usually lands between $1,800 and $2,250. In most cases the stones and the base are still fine. What has failed is the joints (and the surface). Those joints are also what keep water out of the base, so rebuilding them while everything underneath is still sound is the smart move.
Restore first. Seal when it's ready.
A sealer is only as good as the joints underneath it. That's why sometimes we have to start with a restoration. Sealing only happens once the joints have cured and proven sound.
Step 1 · The RestorationInterlock Restoration — Natural Finish
Full joint rebuild: old material extracted and cleaned, then Techniseal HP NextGel vibration-compacted and levelled. You keep the natural stone look, with flexible joints that handle Ottawa freeze-thaw. Best fit for most driveways and for anyone who wants the stone to stay looking like stone.

Step 2 · The Finish — OptionalInterlock CAT5 Seal & Renew
Once the joints have cured and proven sound (ours after 30+ days, or an existing installation that passes assessment), we apply Trident Hurricane CAT5. It's a two-part urethane put down by Ottawa's first certified CAT5 installer. It adds rich satin colour and typically 3–5 winters of protection. Best suited to patios and walkways where you want the deeper, finished look.

A sealer only belongs over a cured, verified-sound base — whether it's a patio, walkway or driveway. Sealing over fresh sand can look fine on day one, but a rigid coating over joints that haven't been properly checked is asking for trouble when freeze-thaw starts moving the ground.
Freshly restored joints get a full 30+ days to cure before any sealer goes on. Existing joints are only sealed once the assessment confirms the polymeric sand is sound. If yours aren't ready yet, we'll say so.

What describes it best? (pick any that apply)
Saturated steam clears the weeds and their roots, and the freshly locked joint that follows leaves little room for new growth to establish.
CAT5 goes only over sound, cured polymeric sand, so sealing starts with a joint check at the assessment.
