Stormwater, managed where it lands
A permeable surface is built so rainwater and snowmelt can soak through. It uses open-graded stone the whole way down with no fines to wash out, so water moving through the surface is the design, not a problem. That means less standing water on the hardscape and less load on the drains. Conventional interlock works the opposite way — it is impermeable paving set on material that holds fines, which is why its joints are meant to shed water rather than let it pass.

Impermeable interlock laid tight against a trunk starves the roots of water and air. Replacing it with breathable bonded pebble stone improves infiltration, root health, and the tree's long-term vitality.

What exactly is bonded pebble stone?
Clean pebble aggregate bound with a resin system. We work with ROMEX materials and are ROMEX recommended and certified. The result is a firm, porous surface: water and air pass through, and the stones stay in place.
Where does it make the most sense?
Tree surrounds are the classic case — replacing the impermeable pavers choking a trunk. It also earns its place in problem drainage spots handled as part of an interlock restoration, or as upgrades within a maintenance program.
Does it need maintenance?
Annual care per the manufacturer's recommendation, with inspections and touch-ups to keep performance and appearance up. We offer that as a tailored annual program for permeable installations.
