Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 10, 2026
At David's Lawns, a sole proprietorship based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, we value your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you interact with us through our website or as a client of our services.
1. Information we collect
We collect limited personal information to provide our services effectively. This may include:
- Contact information: your name, phone number, email address, and home address, which you provide when you contact us or become a client.
- Enquiry details: when you send an enquiry through the website, we receive what you typed into the form — your contact details, the services you selected, your message, and, if you used an estimator, the estimate summary and a link that reopens your configuration. If you drew your lawn or interlock surface on the satellite photo, a snapshot of that drawing is included so we can see the area you meant.
- Payment information: If you pay by cheque, we process it via online banking. If you pay by e-transfer, we receive it via email and it is processed by our banking institution. We do not collect or store sensitive financial details such as bank account or credit card numbers.
- Publicly available information: some of the contact information we collect (e.g., names or addresses) may already be publicly available, such as in directories.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive financial information or other data beyond what is necessary to serve you.
2. How we collect information
- Directly from you when you reach out via phone, email, or the website's enquiry forms.
- When you use the online estimators — the size, postal code, and options you enter are used to calculate your price range, and they reach us only if you choose to send an enquiry.
- When you provide it to us as part of scheduling or receiving our services, including payment details like e-transfers sent to our email.
3. How we use your information
- To contact you, schedule work, prepare your estimate, or respond to enquiries.
- To process payments (e.g., cashing cheques via online banking or receiving e-transfers via email, processed by our banking institution).
- To manage our client relationships and keep the business running smoothly.
We treat your information with respect and do not sell, rent, or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. How we store and protect your information
- Enquiries: an enquiry you send through the website is emailed to us and a copy is kept in secure storage with our website host, so a delivery problem cannot lose your message. If you asked for a confirmation, one is emailed to the address you gave.
- Client records: we store your contact information on our phones and in a reliable Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system with a strong track record for security and dependability.
- Payment handling: if you pay by cheque, we cash it through online banking and securely destroy the cheque after a few months. If you pay by e-transfer, we receive it via email and it is processed by our banking institution; we do not retain sensitive financial details from e-transfers beyond what's needed for processing.
- Security: we take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, or unauthorized access. However, no method of storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Service providers our website uses
Running a modern website means a few carefully chosen companies process small amounts of data on our behalf. We would rather name them than hide them:
- Cloudflare hosts the website and delivers its pages. Like any web host, it sees standard connection information (such as your IP address) when you visit any page.
- Google Fonts serves the site's typeface. Your browser requests the font files from Google's servers, which involves your IP address, on every page.
- Google Maps powers the aerial photo in our estimators. When you ask to measure a property from the sky, the address you typed is sent from our server to Google to find the location and fetch the satellite photo. Your browser does not talk to Google Maps directly, and this happens only when you use that feature.
- Canada Post AddressComplete suggests addresses as you type in the street field of our forms. The characters you type in that field are sent to Canada Post to fetch suggestions. It loads only when you click into the field.
- Resend delivers our enquiry emails, the way a mail carrier delivers a letter.
Beyond these, we do not share your personal information with anyone unless it is necessary to comply with legal obligations (e.g., a court order), or required to complete a service (e.g., if we hire a subcontractor, though this is rare and we'd inform you). We do not resell your information or use it for purposes unrelated to our services.
6. Your rights
Under Canadian privacy laws like PIPEDA, you have the right to:
- Ask us what information we have about you.
- Request corrections to your information if it's inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep.
- Contact us if you have concerns about how we handle your information.
To exercise these rights, please reach out to us using the contact details below.
7. Cookies, tracking, and what this site does not do
This website runs one measurement tool and no advertising tracking. Traffic is counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it records page views, referrers and country-level location without cookies, without storing anything on your device, and without building a profile of you. Beyond that — no Google Analytics, no session recording, no heatmaps, no advertising pixels, and no tracking cookies. We do not follow you around the internet, and there is still no consent banner because nothing here needs consent.
The site does use your browser's own storage for practical things: remembering the estimate you built, a draft enquiry you have not sent yet, and the address you typed — so nothing is lost if you navigate between pages. That information stays in your browser. It is not sent anywhere until you choose to submit an enquiry, and you can clear it any time through your browser's settings.
If we ever add more measurement than this, we will update this policy first and say so plainly, with a new "Last updated" date.
8. Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll post the updated version on our website with a new "Last updated" date.
